Seventeen (17) officers and staff from the Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), Pathum Thani, Thailand, carried the lessons gained in the first phase of the English training program to its actual application during the five-day training and international exposure held in CPSC on May 7-11, 2018.
The program was organized with a realization that English is also one of the languages used in international organizations such as the United Nations and World Bank and a working knowledge of this language is a pre-requisite in a number of fields, occupations and professions. Learning to communicate effectively using the language becomes in demand in different fields, and the program aims to further assist the participants in their goal to use the English language effectively and be useful in their personal and professional endeavors.
During the first phase of the program which was held on February 5-9, 2018, a total of 38 participants listened to lectures on subject-verb agreement and verb tenses, and took workshops and exercises to build their confidence and competence in communication using the English language for globalization. Out of the 38, 17 were chosen to continue their training to the Philippines and be exposed to different scenarios and applications of using English in everyday communication.
In-charge of the program supervision was the CPSC Director General, Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane while the Executive Secretary, Mr. Bryan Lazaro, facilitated the program arrangements as the program coordinator. Mr. Aleksandrov Ivan William Burcer, an expert of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) was invited as the main resource person for the whole duration of the program. The delegation was led by Mr. Wenson Gallaza, International Relations Officer of RMUTT.
The classroom lectures focused on basic lessons on English sentence structures, speech organization and accent neutralization. In addition, it also included practical communication skills such as telephone handling, writing business letters, giving directions, talking to small groups, and oral presentations. A benchmarking visit to Enderun Colleges in Taguig City and a cultural visit to Corregidor Island were also included for them to apply the lessons in the classroom to practical situations.
