Fully maximizing benefits from the partnership, CPSC and the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UTM), once again shared knowledge on clean air management to press on mutual advocacies on environmental concerns and issues. In line with this, a special sharing on “Clean Air Technologies and Management” was conducted at the CPSC Conference Room on August 28, 2014.

The special talk was facilitated by Dr. Hazrat Hussain, on behalf of the CPSC Director General Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub and in cooperation with Dr. Noor Zaitun binti Yahaya, Faculty in Civil Engineering, UTM. Dr. Noor represented the university and handled internships of the UTM students in Manila from July to Sept 2014. Internships were held in several local institutions addressing environmental concerns.

In culmination of the internship program of UTM, CPSC provided a venue for sharing of knowledge and awareness on said issues. UTM student Ms. Viknasvarri Ayerdurai delivered a presentation on transportation and fuel economy of Malaysia. The presentation aimed to study about the transportation status and trends in Malaysia, to provide insights on fuel economy and fuel economy labeling and to provide updates on the status of a fuel-economy dependent nation such as Malaysia.

Ms. Ayerdurai internship was conducted at Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities Inc. (Clean Air Asia), a premier air quality network for Asia by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, and USAID with office at Ortigas, Pasig City. One of its major activities includes harmonizing regional and national policies and standards for air pollution monitoring.

Her presentation provided knowledgeable insights that connected the trends on urbanization and the growth of motor vehicles in Malaysia. She also gave some recommendations on how to adapt measures to curb air pollution in large cities such as Kuala Lumpur, and hopes to be able to contribute significantly to the efforts being done in Manila, Bangkok and other regional cities. Meanwhile, a brief presentation by Dr. Noor on sustainable development provided some important inputs on sustainable development practices being done in the world today.
CPSC staff and some guests from Malaysia attended the knowledge and awareness sharing on critical issues like environmental protection and sustainable development.
