The Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) in collaboration with the Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Thailand organized a National Seminar on Current State and Emerging Trends, Issues and Challenges in TVET Systems on March 27, 2013 at the Town in Town Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.
Attended by 90 participants from Thailand, the national seminar was held in conjunction with the In-Country Program on Competency Based Training and Assessment, co-organized with OVEC as well (see related story: CPSC-OVEC’s ICP on Competency-Based Training kicks off Monday at Town in Town Hotel, Bangkok).
The seminar aimed to provide information and knowledge on the current status and emerging trends in Thailand TVET CBT systems, explain the implication of quality assurance in TVET, and enhance knowledge on green culture vis-à-vis TVET competencies and skills.

The CPSC Director General Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub presented a paper titled Quality Assurance through International Accreditation. He took advantage of the presence of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) administrators and policy makers to share about the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC) and other international and regional initiatives. APACC is a regional quality assurance mechanism established by CPSC member governments in year 2004.
Aside from the DG, various resource persons delivered relevant presentations to address the seminar themes. Among them are Dr. Sirirak Ratchusanti, OVEC Senior Advisor (Topic: Current State of Competency-Based System in Thailand); Mrs. Jerdruedee Chinvaroj, OVEC Expert (Topic: Emerging Trends, Issues and Challenges in TVET Systems); and Dr. Godelyn Hisole, CPSC Faculty Specialist and In-Country Program Coordinator (Competencies and Skills for Greening TVET).
The seminar generated conclusions and concrete recommendations to address issues in TVET in Thailand.
