» » » CPSC conducts 4th CPSC – Korea Tech Special Internship Program

On its continuing commitment to provide human resources development programs for its member countries, the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC) in collaboration with the Korea University of Technology and Education (Korea Tech) is conducting the 4th Special Internship Program for Korea Tech students from July 2 – 19, 2012 at CPSC, Manila, Philippines.

With the intention of enhancing the capacity of Korea Tech students, the program has the following specific objectives: (1) develop awareness on soft skills required for professional efficiency; (2) comprehend the concepts of Research and Development in Technical and Vocational Education and Training and understand research tools and methodologies; (3) gain understanding of various cultures; and (4) gain practical work experience related to their future work.

Participants of the program include 12 Korea Tech students pursuing Bachelor Degrees in the following areas of specialization: Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Management.

The program was formally inaugurated on July 2, 2012, attended by the CPSC Director General and Program Supervisor Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub; Program Coordinator and CPSC Faculty Specialist Engr. Md Jahangir Alam; Resource Person and CPSC Former Assistant to the Director Mrs. Violeta Laraya; CPSC Staff and Korea Tech students.

During his opening speech, the Director General warmly welcomed the students and thanked Korea Tech for trusting CPSC to deliver quality programs for their students. He provided a brief background about CPSC which was supported by a video presentation. Finally, he mentioned the collaboration between CPSC and the government of Korea during the last fiscal year and stressed on the importance of the topics covered in the program in preparing the students to the actual world of work. This was followed by an orientation briefing by the Program Coordinator on the activities and CPSC house rules.

Aside from in-house lectures and tasks, a 4-day immersion program at Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation and a half-day study/industrial visit to Gokongwei Brothers Foundation – Learning Development Center and Universal Robina Corporation, Philippines will be facilitated by CPSC to provide experiences related to future work of the students.

The roster of resource persons include CPSC Training and Development Division Chair/Faculty Consultant Dr. Hazrat Hussain, UP College of Mass Communication Professor Dr. Paz H. Diaz, Asia Pacific College School of Accountancy and Business Professor Ms. Jonalyn Baquillas, and CPSC Research Assistant Mr. Rae Emmanuel Echaveria.
