» » » Malaysia becomes newest country to apply for APACC accreditation

In line with the upcoming on-site visits by the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC) to three premier polytechnics in Malaysia, the APACC Team led by the CPSC Director General and APACC President Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub attended a briefing by the Department of Polytechnic Education (DPE), Ministry of Education on February 19, 2014 at DPE, Putrajaya, Malaysia to understand the polytechnic education system in Malaysia and DPE’s role in the management of premier polytechnics.

The APACC team of accreditors and Secretariat also attended the briefing composed of Dr. Hazrat Hussain, CPSC Faculty (Team Leader), Dr. Raul Muyong, Campus Administrator, Western Visayas College of Science and Technology Miag-ao Campus, Philippines; Dr. Mohamad Hisyam bin Mohd Hashim, Associate Professor, Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (Team Member/Translator) and APACC Officer Ms. Adrienne Abril and Mr. Bryan Noel Lazaro. A total of fifty (50) attended the briefing including officials from Ministry of Education.


Presentation of YBhg. Datuk Hj. Mohlis bin Jaafar

The first briefing was conducted by YBhg. Datuk Hj. Mohlis bin Jaafar, Director General of DPE where he focused on explaining the Malaysian Education System and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Landscape in Malaysia. Polytechnic students comprise 55% of the all TVET student population in Malaysia thus their role in youth education is very important.

It was followed by the presentation of the Quality Assurance and Key Performance Indicators of Polytechnic Education. Aspects related to the seven (7) APACC Criteria were also discussed.


Checking of documents

The briefings clarified the relationship between the DPE which is the central body administering the polytechnics and the polytechnics themselves. On-site visits to premier polytechnics – Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan, and Politeknik Ungku Omar are set from February 20 – 28, 2014.
