Continuing its active role on information sharing in its pursuit to contribute towards the realization of the ASEAN’s (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) goals and visions, CPSC intensified its participation in ASEAN’s activities. The CPSC Director General, Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub, shared his views on Development of TVET Leaders: A Multilateral Approach as one of the main speakers for the International TVET Experts’ Meeting on Professionalization and Modernization in Initial and In-service Training of TVET Personnel in ASEAN from November 6 to 8, 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The International Experts’ Meeting is a conference for TVET experts with a strong regional focus on Asia, in particular ASEAN Member States. The event was jointly facilitated by the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), Thailand, Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRDKorea), GIZ UNEVOC Centre, Magdeburg and UNESCO UNEVOC.
In the context of current discourse in the fields of modernization of TVET teachers and instructor’s education and training, the International Experts Meeting contributed to an exchange of latest national and international experiences of education and training of TVET teachers and instructors. The meeting also offered a forum for discussion of upcoming requirements in modernization of education and training of TVET teachers and instructors as well as opportunities in establishing networking and cooperation frameworks and approaches to improve its quality.
Dr. Naim shared his views on TVET educators’ training through his presentation for Panel 2 in the aspect of “perspectives, experiences and approaches of regional TVET institutions and initiatives”. He highlighted CPSC’s unique and catalytic role in developing and enhancing capacity of champion leaders of TVET who shall “be capable of spearheading change within their communities through efficient transfer of knowledge and skills”. The presentation also covered CPSC’s approaches on developing TVET leaders across the region; types of training programs conducted vis-à-vis tailor-fitted needs of the member countries; major thrusts and areas of interventions per needs analysis of member countries; and the numerous training programs that have benefitted several TVET practitioners through the years.
Among other significant topics tackled during the event was the identification and mobilization of national, regional and international resources and expertise combined that is channeled into possible initiatives for modernization of TVET teachers and instructors. The experts also deliberated on the reinforcement, strengthening and extension of regional networks and partnerships in aiming for improvement in the quality of education and training of TVET teachers and instructors.
