CPSC, in partnership with the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia and the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), jointly organized the Economic Planning and Management course held at the INTAN Main Campus in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from September 12 to October 4, 2013. Twenty one (21) participants from countries such as: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cuba, Gambia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Morroco, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Tunisia were present in the program.

The objectives of the course are:

1. to enhance awareness, knowledge and understanding of public sector economics and the role of government in economic planning;
2. to highlight the need for balancing rapid economic growth with socio-economic objectives;
3. to develop deeper analysis among participants in formation of key economic policies incorporating growth, equity and sustainability;
4. to upgrade understanding and the ability to apply economic planning and management skills and knowledge; and
5. to provide a platform for networking as well as exchange of views and experiences on national economic management among participants from various countries.

The College was represented by Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub, CPSC Director General together with Ms. Casey Joan Alvarez (Acting Team Leader, Training and Development Division) and Mr. Arturo Burt Camba (Team Leader, General Services Division).

Dr. Naim graced the closing ceremonies and underscored in his closing speech his immense pleasure in being able to organize the first ever program between CPSC and MTCP. In particular he expressed his appreciation to  Sharifah Ezneeda of Wisma Putra and her colleagues from Wisma Putra and Miss Lai Swei Sien and her colleagues from INTAN for their invaluable cooperation in facilitating the joint program.  He also said that, “CPSC’s effort in bringing 10 of its member countries to Malaysia is based on the belief that Malaysia has many success stories to share with other countries, and among other things, its expertise, technology, and management capabilities. It is hoped that participants would take back what they have learned, implement them and continue ties with Malaysia in the journey of development in their respective countries. I’m confident that this program has met its intended objectives under the able organization of INTAN and MTCP together with the active involvement of the participants.”
CPSC provided relevant assistance to the program logistics and presented its core business models, achievements and visions to the participants with the aim of providing additional inputs to the attainment of their objectives.
