» » » CPSC – DTE, Bangladesh Conducts In Country Program on Research and Development in TVET

The Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC), in collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Bangladesh, conducted an In-Country Program on “Research and Development in TVET” at DTE, Dhaka, Bangladesh from February 4 – 8, 2013. Through this program, CPSC and DTE contributed to the raising of awareness level, and building capacity and values necessary to put research and development in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system into practice.

The program enhanced understanding and strengthened competencies on research techniques of about 30 administrators, heads of department, curriculum developers, and teachers involved in undertaking and promoting research and development in TVET institutions of Bangladesh.

CPSC Director General, Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub and Engr. Md. Shahjahan Mian, DTE Director General were the Program Supervisors. Dr. Hazrat Hussain, CPSC Faculty Consultant, together with Mr. A.N.M. Salah Uddin Khan, Director (PIU) of DTE managed the overall conduct of the program. Local resource persons included Engr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Former CPSC Specialist and Mr. Romij Ahmed, World Bank Consultant.

The inaugural program on February 4, 2013 gathered high officials from Bangladesh including the Hon. Minister of Education Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Education Mr. Md. Atwar Rahman, Former Director General of DTE and Former Faculty Consultant Prof. M.M.R. Siddiqi, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board Prof. Mohd. Abul Kashem.


Inaugural Program

In his Opening Remarks, Dr. Naim expressed his deep appreciation to the government of Bangladesh for its support to CPSC’s initiatives and programs. He challenged the participants to localize broad research concepts and apply them in the context of pursuing worthy R&D initiatives in various TVET institutions in Bangladesh.

Topics discussed include (1) Research and Its Integration in TVET, (2) Action Research Techniques in TVET, (3) Research Problem Identification and Development of Research Framework, (4) Research Tools and Techniques, (5) Basic Data Analysis Techniques, and (6) Writing a Research Report. Dr. Naim presented a Special Lecture on Needs Analysis of Member Country Requirements and Challenges and Opportunities for CPSC 2013 – 2018.
