» » » CPSC holds Regional Consultation Workshop for Midterm Review on Skills Development for Poverty Alleviation Project

In assessing progress and achievements of the CPSC-Government of India (GOI) Project on Skills Development for Poverty Alleviation (SDPA) during the past two years of its implementation, and in further enhancing the project’s framework and operational strategies, CPSC conducted a Regional Consultation Workshop on Skills Development for Poverty Alleviation (SDPA) from November 12-14, 2012 at CPSC in Manila, Philippines.

The workshop aimed to bring together delegates from the member countries who have been actively involved in the implementation of the SDPA programs through the lens of TVET in the respective countries since its inception. The consultative workshop facilitated the exchange of experiences and best practices in TVET skills programs among the member countries. The workshop also examined practical models, frameworks, innovations and initiatives relevant to skill development for poverty alleviation, among other important agenda.

The Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Philippines, His Excellency Shri Amit Dasgupta and the Honorable Undersecretary of the Development Partnership Administration of the Ministry of External Affairs of Government of India Shri Krishna Kumar graced the inaugural ceremonies of the program as Chief Guests. Both affirmed the support of the Government of India to CPSC in its drive to address the problem of poverty in the region, taking into account the importance of regional cooperation such as the SDPA in addressing these large-scale issues. Mr. Kumar recognized CPSC’s efforts in delivering the project to the countries, noting its long-term achievements to the beneficiaries through empowering champion leaders for grassroots development of skills for poverty alleviation.

In response, the CPSC Director General Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub expressed his profound gratitude and recognition of the important role of the Government of India in making such initiative as the SDPA possible. He thanked the chief guests for their warm reception and positive responses on the achievements and plans of the SDPA program, as well as the member countries present in the sessions.

Fifteen delegates, composed of TVET experts, focal persons, administrators and project implementers from CPSC member countries across the region convened for the three-day workshop and came up with a thorough assessment of the SDPA program implementation from 2010 until the present, as well as the experiences and lessons learned during its implementation. All the delegates took active part in the extensive deliberations to enhance the existing project framework and formulate new strategies for successful implementation of TVET skills programs taking into consideration the unique demand of their countries.

Overall management of the consultation workshop is under the helm of the CPSC DG Dr. Naim with the facilitation of CPSC Faculty Members Engr. Md. Jahangir Alam, as Coordinator and Dr. Hazrat Hussain as Co-Coordinator.
